Why I Love Miami Beach Florida

Among the many attractive reasons for visiting Miami Beach, Florida, are, of course, the excuse now known as the must-attend Spring Break, or the roller-blading beach beauties, or the ideal weather conditions.

But more glamorous reasons, transcending the travelers penchant for balmy bay winds and such, is in the reputation a place like Miami Beach, Florida has for featuring popular TV programs and series and hosting films which have a Miami Beach, Florida setting.

The first long-standing show of the past is of course the Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas original Miami Vice version, which highlighted the Miami Beach, Florida scenes, ocean- and landscapes, and even southern fashions of the seventies and eightiesthe open necked t-shirt and sports coat and shoes without socks look that spread through the land as fast as Disco gold chains and polyester did.

But in the same genre, thirty years later, the even more influential Miami Beach, Florida show is CSI: MIAMI. The hang-dog heroic, the neo-Clint Eastwood with an intellect of David Carusos character leads the team into the Miami Beach, Florida luxury homes, onto the speedboats and yachts, and through the hippest of clubs of the famous party town. The details are fascinating; the scenes are riveting.

So maybe the crime statisticsimpliedare too off-putting for one to think of actually taking vacation at Miami Beach, Florida.

Then the cinematic way to go is by old films and newer non-detectivemysterycrime story themes. That is, maybe one can understand the local offerings, the schools, the libraries, the networking possibilities, the real estate, by watching Police Academy or Bad Santa or Wild Things.

Maybe one can get a sense of the aesthetics, the social climate, and the politics of Miami Beach, Florida in a movie such as the new Miami Vice or the older, more non-fictionalized A Sculpture of Love and Anguish: The Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial.

Or, maybe one can appreciate the straight up beaches and wind in the palms atmosphere in films like Always Something Better; Black Sunday; or The Godfather or The Crew.

Sure, it may be an odd, quirky way to go about looking for real estate in Miami Beach Florida or deciding on the ideal vacation hotel or venue.

Then again, it might be a more realistic impression to closely watch a show than to read a pamphlet or twoand besides, how do you think 3-D advertising got its start?

White Sand And Golden Tan: Welcome To Miami – Travel

White Sand And Golden Tan: Welcome To Miami – Travel Information

Modern-day Miami is the idyllic vacation destination for most Americans as it is a balanced blend of urban and tropical, a resort locale on one hand with all the big city trimmings of a booming economy on the other. Small cafes and art deco bars of Miami Beach exist alongside the megaclubs and skyrise hotels of Downtowns Financial District. Somewhere in between, the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserve provides exciting sea adventures for the whole family and the Port of Miami supplies access to the Florida Keys and the Bahamas by way of major cruise ship.

Cosmopolitan Chic: a Global Retreat

Finding airfare to Miami from any destination worldwide has become easy since Miami has positioned itself on the international map culturally, financially and demographically over the last few decades. Miami struggled with an influx of immigration from the Caribbean, Cuba and South America combined with a massive exodus of financial capital throughout most of the 20th century. Today, Miami has bounced back with full force, overflowing with the swankiest restaurants, premier nightlife, designer shopping and restored historic art deco hotels that glitter the oceanfront avenues of South Beach.

A walk along Collins Avenue in South Beach will reveal the charm of rehabilitated 1920s architecture, commingling with a Latin and European flair of sidewalk cafes, designer boutiques and the buzz of multiple languages afloat through the air. Farther north into main Miami Beach along Ocean Avenue offers the luxurious beach club hotels that Miami is famous for. These hotels offer panoramic ocean views, self-contained clubs and lounges and a pool with private access to the crashing ocean waves.

The dining in Miami is just as representative of its multicultural population. Do not miss a Cuban meal (or two) and the Argentinean special of flash-fried steak. Ask a local for the best authentic cooking and make sure to brush up on some Spanish ahead of time. Miami has also become the epicenter of sophisticated cuisine. Celebrity chefs Nobu Matsuhisa and Emeril Lagasse have opened restaurants in South Beach and the Blue Door inside the breathtaking Delano Hotel is also a notable standout. Make sure to have stone crabs at one of your meals, a local specialty!

Feeling the Salty Breeze of Miami

Aside from eating, drinking and otherwise resort and spa life, Miami has an endless array of activities for all levels of interest. Snorkeling and Scuba diving are the most common activities, along with boat and Jet Ski rentals from most major ports along the bay. Book a sunset ride at the Tropical Park Equestrian Center or rent a kayak to take a scenic tour of the majestic mansions the line the bay along the mainland.

Its time to come see the dramatic beautification and restoration of Miami for yourself. Book your airfare to Miami now and reserve a few nights in one of the historic boutique art deco hotels along Collins Avenue to get the full South Beach experience.

The Unique Appeal Of Miami Beach Real Estate

Miami Beach is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Miami Beach has always been one of America’s finest beach resorts for almost a century, and the city is often referred to under the umbrella term of “Miami,” despite it being a separate municipality, making Miami and Miami Beach two separate cities. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 87,933, of which 55.5% of the population was foreign born.

New Upscale Projects Make It To Forbes Lists

For prospective Miami real estate investors, it would be nice to know that a new Miami Beach condominium development has made it into the top 10 places mentioned in Forbes feature story “Where We Want To Live In 2006. The list includes such large development projects, like Donald Trump’s new 125 million Palm Beach estate and Ian Schrager’s nearly-finished Gramercy Park in New York where some 10 million-units are on offer. Canyon Ranch Living, a upscale new real estate development in Miami Beach makes the cut because of its deluxe spa services in a 70,000-square-foot Canyon Ranch Spa as well as the elegant amenities, common to the 10 listed, that take luxury living further into a hedonistic fantasy land.

New Construction Remodels Miami beach Skyline

If one compares the skyline of Miami Beach just 10 years ago with how it looks today, you probably would fail to recognize some of the citys districts, other than the art-deco strip or the beach, since most of the skyline today is still littered with construction cranes working on various real estate developments. However, most would say that there has been quite a slowdown; or is the property market just taking a bit of a rest after the flurry of new projects?

A lot of new Miami Beach real estate developments are ongoing at the famous South Beach district, also known as SoBe, or The Beach. This is one of the most popular areas of Miami Beach. Topless sunbathing is allowed on certain designated zones of the beach. Before the TV show Miami Vice made the area popular, SoBe was under urban blight, with vacant buildings and a high crime rate. Today, it is regarded as one of the richest commercial areas on the beach. Miami Beach, particularly Ocean Drive of what is now the Art Deco District, was also featured prominently in the 80s Al Pacino movie, Scarface. Lincoln Road is a famous worldwide for its great outdoor dining, bike riding, rollerblading and shopping facilities.

The Flurry Of Investors Just Keeps Rolling

Residents, both full-time and seasonal visitors, have nearly taken over Miami Beach, thus lifting housing prices into the heavens and demanding more services that tourists never did before. Miami Beachs full-time population jumped from almost 88,000 in 2000 to more than 93,500 in 2005, according to data provided by the city. Seasonal residents have risen from 14,339 to more than 20,000, and the population is not the only thing swelling: The median household income in the city was up 31,420 in 2005, up from 27,322 in 2000.

The growth right now has been higher than previous historic standards, but I think clearly the demand is there, according to Kevin S. Crowder, the citys director of economic development. Demand for everything from goods and services to entertainment to million-pound condominiums continues to rise, according to most Miami Beach business owners.

The Top 5 Amenities of a Miami Beach Hotel

Miami Beach is fast becoming one of the top vacation destinations for families and travelers alike. Miami Beach offers sun, fun and a variety of activities to choose from. No that you have decided to vacation in Miami Beach, it is time to choose the hotel that you will reside in for your vacation. With a plethora of hotel options how does one pick the perfect Miami Beach hotel? A good way to choose a hotel is by the amenities that the hotel has to offer. One of the biggest disappointments that I have encountered is getting to a hotel and expecting a service that the hotel does not offer. With all the travel tools that are available on the web, you can do a little research before you go to make sure you get what you want. Listed below are what I feel are the top 5 amenities that a hotel can offer to you and your family to make your accommodation choice perfect for you.

#1 Amenity – Beach Access and Pool
When you are in Miami you are there for a reason. Chances are you are there to have fun on the beach. Many hotels in Miami have beach access right at the hotel. While some don’t, chances are there is a beach not far, usually within walking distance from the hotel. When it comes to beach access, determine how much time you will be spending on the beach, and how long you want to travel to get to one. Another consideration is cost. Hotels that have private beach access tend to be more expensive than hotels that don’t.
When choosing a Miami Beach hotel, consider whether or not you would like the hotel to have a pool, and make sure that the pool is open. Hotels do go through renovations and sometimes they don’t list whether the pool is open while you are there. It can ruin a vacation if the kids want to go to the pool and you find out it is closed due to renovation while you are there. A hotel may list that they have a poll on their website, but it is still a good ides to give the hotel a call to make sure the pool will be open while you are there.

#2 Amenity – Onsite Dining
While it is nice to experience dining outside your hotel, sometimes vacationing can make you tired and you may not want to leave your hotel. When choosing a hotel, check to see what kind of dining options the hotel offers. Some hotels offer only 1 or 2 choices for dining, while others offer an assortment of options. Many of the hotels offer fine dining in the evening so it might be good to check on what type of attire is suitable for this type of restaurant.

#3 Amenity – Spa andor Health Club
Many Hotels today offer an onsite spa or fitness center. If you are looking to pamper yourself while you are on vacation, check into these choices. While some hotels offer onsite spas and fitness centers, others offer affiliate programs. These programs offer discounts to nearby spas or fitness centers. A lot of times when a spa is offsite the hotel will provide transportation. It is still a good idea to check with the hotel to see what they do and do not offer in regards to a spa and health club. Many hotels also offer spa packages or specials that are included in the packages, so check into this and save some money by booking it all together.

#4 Amenity – Children’s Activities
Miami Beach is a great family destination. When choosing a hotel, make sure it offers something for everyone. Many hotels offer things for children, such as a kiddy pool and playground equipment. Others offer activities for older children such as table games and arcades right in the hotel. Check these out before you go to make sure the whole family is happy.

#5 Amenity – Onsite Entertainment
Many hotels offer entertainment right at the hotel. This can be a major consideration when booking a room. While many people enjoy the onsite entertainment some people don’t. Check to see what kind of entertainment the hotel offers, and what time it ends. If events end later than you would like, and you still like the hotel, request a room away from the area where the entertainment or event is being held. If onsite entertainment is your thing, it is a good idea to talk with the hotel’s concierge to get a list of events going on at the hotel.

Every Miami Beach Hotel offers something a little bit different. Before choosing one, consider the above amenities and others that I have not mentioned before planning your next vacation. View the hotel’s website as well as other online sources to see what other guests have said about the hotel you are thinking about.

Parents Resources Abound In Miami Schools

The Miami Schools district is one of immense size. It serves students from all walks of life. In order to stay connected with their students first teachers (the parents) the Miami Schools have devised several ways to encourage parents to become involved in their childrens school experience. Some of these avenues are: The Office of Parental Involvement, The Parent Academy, the Bilingual Parent Outreach Program (offered by the Division of Bilingual Education and World Languages), and the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) or the PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association).

Each Miami School has a Parent Teacher Association or a Parent Teacher Student Association. This is a local organization that generally meets at individual Miami Schools. It is connected to the Dade County Council PTAPTSA, which is part of the Florida PTA. The PTAs mission is as follows:

to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;

to assist parents in developing skills needed to raise, protect, and prepare their children; and

to encourage parent and public involvement in [Miami Schools].

The Bilingual Parent Outreach Program offers a series of free workshops on various topics, in an effort to increase participation of LEP (Limited English Proficiency) andor immigrant families in their childrens education in the Miami Schools. Research indicates that most parents of immigrant students are reluctant to get involved in their childrens school functions due to language or cultural barriers. The workshops that the Bilingual Parent Outreach Program offers are hosted in Spanish andor Haitian Creole, with the hope that parents will feel more comfortable in getting involved in the Miami Schools their children attend.

The Parent Academy, or TPA, offers Miami Schools parents the opportunity to experience an academic, collegiate environment while learning how to help their students succeed. There are a multitude of classes available to parents, including The A.B.C.s of MiamiSchools on How to Help My Child With Math! Parents can also take classes on how to help their child, and life skills classes such as How to Write a Resume for a New Job. For the parents who want to earn their degrees, the TPA offers accelerated coursework.

The Office of Parental Involvement strives to encourage all parents to take an active part in their childrens education experience while studying at Miami Schools. In a recent letter to parents, Rudolph F. Crew, Superintendent of Schools and Gary M. Pappas, Chairman of The Education Fund had this to say: Parental involvement is at the heart of student achievement, and you play a pivotal role in the education of your children. To help you continue on this path, [Miami Schools] and The Education Fund have created the Parent Resource Guide a one-stop source with helpful tips and information to guide you as you advocate for your child. The Parent Resource Guide is meant to be a source for sharing information that will empower you to impact your childs success [while attending a Miami School] and after graduation.
